I'm Hayley Milam and I'm great at keeping things organized and taking notes. For nearly all of my classes, I spent so much time writing study packets, making flashcards, etc. I'd frequently share all these with my friends and peers to help them prepare for exams. I could see this business playing a role in my life because it involves sharing study materials with as many people as possible. I am offering to customers an app that has games specifically centered around their courses' content. For example, students could play trivia games against each other to help them learn vocabulary terms or other important information. This information will come from pre-existing, accessible test banks, or information that is provided by people who track and take notes on classes. This app would be free, but could have some low-cost in-app purchases. I'm offering this to UF students, especially those in larger classes, such as critical tracking courses for each school. I believe customers would be willing to pay for this service because it's a fun and easy way to study, or brush up on some topics on the bus before class. I have the focus to stay on task and take very thorough notes on various subjects and can summarize complicated concepts well.
I believe these elements fit well together, but this would not be something I'd be able to accomplish alone. I may be able to help other finance majors, but I would have to expand my pool of study materials to other majors/colleges.
Wow, what a great idea. I also make flashcards, but would love something more interactive. I think the hardest part about your concept would be developing the app and gathering the information. Maybe for a school like UF, it will take a couple of semesters to develop and gather information, you could even partner with a service like Smokin Notes for some of their information they have gathered over the years. Great concept and I hope it is developed one day. Here's the link to mine http://ent3003sw.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-no-1.html
ReplyDeleteHi Hayley,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your idea napkin! You have a really good opportunity right here! I think a lot of students pay for study services like TutoringZone or Study Edge so a free app that offered study materials would really set a tone for competitors. I think that starting off small with just business/finance majors is a smart idea. Doing it that way will let business/finance majors talk to their friends on campus and make them jealous which will then lead their friends to talk to others on campus about it, creating a major desire for the app to offer other majors' study materials. I think you could even charge a semester, yearly, or lifetime fee since many of us are in college for 4+ years. I would definitely use this app if it were available now.
My idea napkin is very different than yours, if you have a chance check it out here: http://plantflourishgrow.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-1the-cat-connection.html
Hi Hayley,
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great idea! I think having making games into studying and preparing for exams would work very well. I personally would love to have educational games help me with my exams. I think the toughest thing would be to have enough skilled note takers in all the classes to benefit all the students at UF. I have a totally different idea than you if you would like to check it out here is the link
